The High Christmas!

We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas with family and friends. Our Christmas found us up north in Hackensack, MN where my parents live. (We also like to call it our "vacation home".) It was a Christmas that we all will remember. To give you some background: My brother, Don, received a bonus from work and called my sister and I asking if it would be alright if he and Jen used some of the money to get my kids and my sister's kids each a Wii. Believe it or not, we actually tried to talk him out of it, but it was something that they really wanted to do and so out of the goodness of our hearts, we let him : )! We had to keep it a secret for more than two months, but we all did it and on Christmas night after all of the presents were opened, my brother put his plan into motion. He made the 5 of them read a poem he had written pushing them to 2 bags filled with SOCKS, yes, just socks. Then another poem led them to a big black bag filled with two wrapped presents; one for Katie and David and one for the Highs. They opened them at the same time and the reactions that ensued were so comical and memorable (I have a video of it, but cannot get it to load on this blog.) I think Katie cried and we had to remind David to breath and then it was a hog pile onto Don - the now favorite uncle!

Besides the Wii, the three days spent with the whole family was a very enjoyable time. As we sometimes get carried away with all of the presents and "stuff" at this time of year, let us never forget the real meaning of Christmas and what that wonderful gift means for us now. We hope 2008 is a very happy and healthy one for everyone. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
