Our first stop after Josh's baseball tournament in Owatonna was in Rockford, IL where we visited with our friends from college, Philip and Rhonda Whitehead and their two kids, Isaiah and Olivia. We had a great time, but dummy me didn't take any pictures while we were there, but here is one of Jon and Phil in their roommate days with efforts to impress their future wives! And you all wondered why we married them!! : )
Our next stop was Canton, OH to tour the NFL Hall of Fame. If was fun to see the history of football and all of the great players and coaches bronze statues.
After that, we drove all day and got to Mom and Floyd's house that evening. It was great to see them and after we got settled we were able to visit for a little while. The next day we were off to Reading, PA where we met up with the Beers family, Jon's best friend since they were kids. Pete and Kristina have three adorable boys, Luke, Isaac and Seth. We went miniature golfing and had a ton of fun with only one injury to Kristina from a club to the mouth! (That is why she is hiding behind Pete in this picture.) It was great to see them and spend time catching up!
We shopped at the big VF outlets in Reading and then headed back to Moms. We weren't there for long as the next morning we got up early and drove to Washington, DC were we spent 2 days seeing all of the sights. While the city has a ton of history and parts of it are beautiful, it is a place I would not want to live.
We decided that we were going to go from DC to Ocean City, NJ so the kids could see the ocean for the first time and visit the boardwalk for a couple of hours before heading back to Quakertown. On our way to the shore we drove through Elmer, NJ which is Michele Hunter's hometown. Chele - we drove slow, but this is the only picture we got! (She told us she has never even eaten at this place!)
We ended up having so much fun that we stayed overnight and spent the next morning on the beach.

We got home very tired, but with great memories and hopes of going back to the shore someday for a longer period of time. Sunday we went to church with Mom and Floyd and had a very relaxing day getting ready for our big day in New York City. The last time we went out east we did the Statue of Liberty so we decided not to do that this time around, but just walked around before the main event of the day -- The Yankee/Twins baseball game at Yankee Stadium. While the Twins lost and we had to sit behind New York's most obnoxious fan, it was a fun time! Many phenomenal sights were seen and some we hope to soon forget ("The Naked Cowboy").
We got home from New York just after midnight and slept in the next day. Mom treated us to Philly Cheese steaks and Hoagies and with her awesome cooking in and between our trips, our waste lines definitely did not suffer. The 4th of July dawned a little overcast, but with a picnic planned for the afternoon we had no time to dwell on the wet weather. Jon's 2 sisters and most of their families came over for a picnic and only after everyone had gotten their first helping did we have to move into the garage due to the rain. It was still a ton of fun catching up on wedding pictures, future wedding plans and plenty of reminiscing.
One of the days we were at Mom's we took a drive around to see some of the old hang-outs of Jon's. We ran into their neighbors from their old house, the Kulps! It was fun to see where Jon spent many days and evenings playing basketball, lawns he used to mow and places he used to go.
In no time at all, our vacation was over and we started the drive back to Minnesota. The day we left, we put in 13.5 hours in the car which made the last day only about 5 hours. We got home just in time to unpack, do one load of laundry and get 2 baseball games in for Jared. It was his state tournament! They won one and lost one which finished their season.
We had a ton of fun and still want to spend time with each other - which, to me, is a great accomplishment. We hope you all are enjoying your summer! Thanks for checking in!
